How to recover a forgotten admin password of Synology Router?

I forgot my Synology Password! is that you mate? Well if you have forgotten your Synology Router Admin password, there’s no coming back, mate! Though I’ll surely tell you a solution in this article but for next time you must note down the new username and password on a notepad so that you don’t get into this situation again in the future.

The solution is to RESET your Synology Router. RESET makes the router back to when it was just got out of the box! Not its appearance of course but its software is as new as it was when you bought it

Follow the below steps to RESET your Synology Router using the button on your Synology NAS/ IP SAN/ NVR device.

  1. Search the RESET button on your Synology device.
  2. If you’re unsure of its location you can find it on the device’s Hardware Installation Guide.
  3. This button is placed in a deep hole to prevent accidental RESETs, therefore you’ll require a straightened paper clip to press it.
  4. Gently press it and hold it for like 4 seconds until it sounds “beep”. Release immediately after the sound.
  5. It will restart on its own.
  6. Use the default credentials to personalize it now.

NOTE:

  1. Resetting your device will erase all of your network settings but will not format the storage space. Due to that, you will not be able to find your Synology via its original IP address or DDNS.
  2. The credentials will revert to its admin account, its password is blank and the guest account will revert to the disabled status.
  3. To find your Synology device on the Web Assistant page, enter find.synology.com in the starter find Synology bar of a web browser. To know more about the Synology Assistance utility, click here.

I cannot find my router via router.synology.com?

There is a limitation when you use router.synology.com to access your Synology Router. It is to keep your enquiring device in the router’s local network.

  • You need to ensure that the enquiring device (e.g. your PC) and the router are connected properly to each other without any hubs and switches via network cables or Wi-Fi connection.
  • Connect your PC again to the original port or another port on the router in case of poor contact between the network cable and the port socket.
